It roughly takes between 20 to 40 seconds to create a new Nimiq account to start receiving transactions. Don't believe it? Then checkout the video below… if you have two minutes to spare but feel free to skip to the next section to check out the detailed process.
How to create a Nimiq account
The whole process only requires a web browser, no plugin or app installations. During the process you are asked to download the access file that you'd need at a latter time to be able to log into your account from a different browser, or in case that you log out or clear the browser data. All your account information is stored locally and Nimiq doesn't have any information related to your account in their servers, nor would be able to recover your account in case that you lose the access file or forget your password. The following video shows in more detail the process.
Start charging in crypto right away
After you create your account you can start charging your customers using the non custodial service provided by Nimiq. The service will convert the amount you want to charge from your local currency to NIM (BTC and ETH are also supported), and would present a QR code that your clients can scan with their wallet, or a link that you can send in a text messaging for them to complete the payment. It will also send an email notification when the payment is complete. The process can be seen in the video below.
HODL in your hardware wallet
You can HODL in your hardware wallet too. The Nimiq web wallet supports the Ledger Nano S and Nano X hardware wallets. Follow the steps in the following video to create or connect to your Nimiq account in your device.
Swap crypto to fiat
You can also swap your crypto to fiat and receive the money directly to your bank account. Currently only EUR in the euro zone (Instant SEPA) is supported but more options are in work. The swap is non custodial, meaning that there is no middleman apart from the bank sends the money to your bank account via a programable fiat smart contract. The whole process is atomic, so that you have control over your assets, and there is a time limit to automatically receive a refund in case that the full operation si not complete, meaning that your assets won't be indefinitely stuck in limbo.
